I’ve been searching for cycling routes for a summer cycling trip so I visited the Sustrans website to check out the National Cycle Network. Whilst there, I was pleasantly surprised (!) to find that there is a National Cycle Network app for Android phones and iPhones.
The app includes 25,000 miles of route – including all 13,000 miles of award winning National Cycle Network and a further 12,000 miles of regional and local routes and links. This app is not a routing engine or journey planner. It uses the same mapping we have on our website – but it also recommends rides, has GPS tracking, map centering, and the updates on route development
This is a really good idea. I’m fed up with visiting cycle ride pages on local government and other websites that are ‘promoting’ cycling, only to discover a static image map of the route(s). In this day and age, there’s no excuse for not having a dynamic map (for example Google Maps, Bing maps). The Sustrans National Cycle Network app gives you that kind of mapping in your pocket! Nice one.

I can’t find the National Cycling Network app for Android on play store or any other site.
Please advise.

I don’t know if the app exists any more. Check with Sustrans because the NCN is their remit.
