In two weeks, I am away for a few days on a cycling/mountain biking trip in Dorset. A group of us are staying in Blandford Forum for three days so we’ve planned some cycling trips from the town into surrounding countryside, probably riding 60 miles/day. I don’t know that area of the UK very well so I’m looking forward to exploring it!
My training for the weekend is a bit underdone to be honest. I have been cycling every week for the last several weeks but my rides have been 20-25 miles (at best) over a couple of hours. Ideally, I would normally like to have done a couple of long 3-4 hour rides in preparation although I have tried to cycle the shorter training rides a bit faster than normal. I still have time for one long ride over the weekend before we go to Dorset so I’m hoping that will be enough.
On the Dorset weekend, I plan to use Social Hiking and Viewranger to track my progress on at least one of the days. However, battery life on my HTC Desire mobile phone is not great when using GPS for more than a few hours – so whether the phone will keep going for the whole day is perhaps doubtful. As an aside, battery life on smartphones is one area that seems to have lagged behind the plethora of other mobile technology advances in recent years. Oh well, guess I will be using airplane mode a lot on my Dorset trip.
I plan to report back on the weekend afterwards!
